How to Resolve a Charge from Epoch

At the time of sale you were sent an email confirmation (purchase receipt) for your initial purchase which describes what you bought, the name of the website from which you made the purchase, the terms of the purchase, your order ID, and a link to our customer service should you have any questions.

Merchant Category Codes
- For Merchants -
A merchant category code (MCC) is a four-digit number assigned to a business by credit card companies (such as MasterCard, VISA) when the business first starts accepting credit cards as a form of payment. The MCC is used to classify the business by the type of goods or services it provides.
MCCs are helpful to the IRS for tax purposes, but are also used to calculate points or rewards in loyalty programs. For example, if you have a credit card that offers 2% cash back on groceries, 3% cash back on gas, and 1% cash back on everything else, the way that is tracked is through the MCC. Eligible merchants and the associated MCCs are the following: (a) Grocery Stores (MCC codes 5411, 5422, 5441, 5451, 5462, and 5499); and (b) Gas Stations (MCC codes 5541 and 5542). Purchases made at a merchant that does not process transactions under these codes does not qualify and you will not receive the rewards.
It is important that each business uses the correct category code when processing transactions. Epoch processes for digital content, which wasn't really a consideration when the original MCC list was set up. However the card associations have deemed that payment service providers in this field shall be categorized as MCC-5967.
